Nepali Gurukul is an AI-powered learning platform for Nepali language, culture, storytelling, and family connection. This Privacy Policy explains how MAK Star Venture LLC ("Nepali Gurukul," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects information when you use nepaligurukul.com, our applications, and related services (collectively, the "Services").

For purposes of applicable privacy law, MAK Star Venture LLC is generally the controller of personal information processed through the Services, except where we process information only on behalf of an educational organization under a written agreement.

2. Information we collect

We collect information you provide, information generated as you use the Services, and limited information from service providers and connected features.

Information you provide

• Account and profile information: name, email address, password or authentication credentials, country/region, language preferences, age range or date of birth, learner profile, avatar, and family-profile information.
• Parent or guardian information: contact details, consent records, family relationship, parental settings, and communications with us.
• Learning information: answers, written work, saved vocabulary, lesson choices, goals, learning preferences, progress, assessment results, and feedback.
• Voice and media information: audio you choose to submit for speaking practice, pronunciation feedback, recordings, live tutoring, or support. We may also receive text transcriptions produced from audio. Do not submit another person’s voice or image unless you have authority to do so.
• Communications and content: messages to GURU or GURU AAMA, support requests, survey responses, reviews, community posts, classroom content, and materials you upload or share.
• Tutoring information: booking preferences, tutor and learner profiles, availability, session notes where enabled, and ratings. Live-session video or audio is handled as described at the time of the session; we will not record a live session unless we clearly notify participants and obtain any legally required consent.
• Payment information: subscription plan, purchase history, billing country, and transaction status. Card and other payment credentials are processed by our payment provider (such as Stripe); we do not ordinarily receive or store full payment-card numbers.

Information collected automatically

We may collect device and browser type, operating system, IP address, approximate location inferred from IP, application version, identifiers, log data, pages or features used, clicks, lesson timing, crash reports, referral source, and cookie or similar-technology data. We use this information for security, operation, analytics, and improvement.

Information from others

We may receive payment confirmations from payment providers, authentication information from sign-in providers you choose, and information from a parent, school, tutor, or family organizer who creates or administers your profile. We may also receive aggregated analytics or fraud-prevention signals from vendors.

3. How we use information

We use information to:

• provide, personalize, secure, maintain, and improve the Services;
• create and manage accounts, family profiles, subscriptions, purchases, and tutoring bookings;
• deliver lessons, spaced review, progress tracking, accessibility features, and age-appropriate experiences;
• operate GURU and GURU AAMA, including responding to prompts, providing feedback, generating permitted learning content, and adapting difficulty;
• process payments, prevent fraud, enforce our Terms, and troubleshoot technical problems;
• communicate about service activity, safety, support, updates, and—with the choices required by law—marketing;
• analyze usage, test features, measure effectiveness, and develop new features using de-identified or aggregated information where practicable;
• meet legal obligations and protect the rights, safety, and security of users, children, tutors, our personnel, and the public.

We do not use a child’s personal information for behavioral advertising. We do not knowingly sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined by certain U.S. state privacy laws. If this practice changes, we will provide the notices and choices required by law before doing so.

4. AI features and your choices

The Services may use artificial intelligence to power GURU, GURU AAMA, pronunciation feedback, lesson recommendations, stories, translations, summaries, and tutoring support. AI-generated material can be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for a particular learner; it is educational assistance, not professional advice.

Prompts, responses, voice samples, and learning interactions may be processed by us and carefully selected AI, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and cloud-service providers to provide the feature, prevent misuse, and improve reliability. We configure providers and contractual controls to limit use of personal information where available. We do not permit an AI provider to use a child’s personal information to train its general-purpose model except with verifiable parental consent or where otherwise permitted by law.

Please do not enter highly sensitive information into AI features, including health, financial, government-ID, precise-location, or other people’s personal information. Parents can contact us at nepaligurukul@gmail.com to ask about available controls for a child’s AI interactions.

Voice recordings are used to provide requested speech features and to improve feature quality as described at collection. We do not use voice recordings to identify a person or make decisions based on biometric identifiers unless we give a separate notice and obtain any consent required by law.

5. Children’s privacy

The Services may be used by children. We design child-facing experiences to collect only the information reasonably necessary for the activity.

Children under 13 in the United States

We require a parent or legal guardian to create or authorize an account for a child under 13 before we knowingly collect personal information from that child beyond information permitted for a limited, child-directed interaction. We use a verifiable parental-consent process before collecting, using, or disclosing personal information from a child in a manner requiring consent under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Parents may review their child’s personal information, request deletion, withdraw consent, and refuse further collection by contacting us. Withdrawal may limit features that depend on that information. We will not condition a child’s participation on providing more information than is reasonably necessary.

Children outside the United States

For users in the EEA, UK, and other regions, the age at which a child can consent to online services varies by country. Where required, we obtain consent from a parent or guardian before processing a child’s information. Parents and guardians must supervise children’s use of the Services and may contact us to exercise privacy rights.

We do not knowingly allow children to make purchases, communicate publicly, or book tutoring without the controls and approvals required by the product and applicable law. If you believe a child gave us information without required authorization, contact us promptly.

6. When we disclose information

We disclose personal information only as reasonably necessary for the purposes above, including to:

• Service providers that host, secure, analyze, support, process payments, provide email, deliver video or tutoring infrastructure, or enable AI and speech features. They may process information only under our instructions and contractual safeguards.
• Tutors, teachers, schools, and family members when you or an authorized parent/organization uses features that require sharing, such as a scheduled tutoring session, family progress view, or classroom. The exact information visible depends on the feature and settings.
• Other users if you choose to post or share content in a community feature. Do not post personal or sensitive information publicly.
• Professional advisers, authorities, and transaction parties when legally required or reasonably necessary to protect rights and safety, investigate fraud, comply with a lawful request, or in connection with a merger, financing, sale, or reorganization.

We do not rent or sell personal information. We may share aggregated or de-identified information that does not reasonably identify you.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

We use strictly necessary cookies and similar technologies to operate and secure the Services, remember preferences, keep you signed in, measure performance, and understand use. Where required, we ask for consent before placing non-essential analytics or advertising technologies.

8. Legal bases for EEA/UK users

Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on one or more of these bases: performance of our contract with you; our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the Services; your consent; compliance with legal obligations; and protection of vital interests. Our legitimate interests do not override your fundamental rights and freedoms. You may withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already performed.

9. International transfers

We are based in the United States and may process information in the United States, Nepal, and other countries where we or our providers operate. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for transfers, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, an adequacy decision, or another valid transfer mechanism. 10. Retention and security

We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here, including to provide the Services, meet legal/accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Retention varies by data type.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep credentials confidential and notify us promptly of suspected unauthorized use.

11. Your privacy rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, receive a portable copy of, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal information. You may also withdraw consent and appeal a decision about a request where applicable. Parents may exercise these rights for their child subject to identity and authority verification.

To make a request, email nepaligurukul@gmail.com with the subject line "Privacy Request." Tell us your country/state, relationship to the learner, and request. We may ask for information necessary to verify your identity or authority. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law, subject to verification. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

You can opt out of marketing emails using the unsubscribe link. We may still send transactional, security, and service notices.

12. California privacy notice

This section applies to California residents and supplements the rest of this Policy. In the preceding 12 months, we may have collected the following categories: identifiers; customer-record information; protected characteristics such as age; commercial information; internet or network activity; approximate geolocation; audio information submitted for learning; education information; and inferences about learning preferences or progress. We collect them from you, your parent/guardian or authorized organization, your device, and service providers, and use/disclose them for the purposes and recipients described in Sections 2–6.

California residents may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information, and may limit the use/disclosure of sensitive personal information if applicable. We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing personal information of users under 16. If that changes, we will provide a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link and required opt-out mechanisms.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. You may designate an authorized agent as described above. You may appeal a rights decision by replying to our response with "Privacy Appeal."

13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in our practices, Services, or law. We will post the revised version and update the effective date. For material changes, especially changes affecting children’s information, we will provide additional notice and obtain consent where required.
